Guadalajara University Hospital and appointments in Madrid: how to get there from each part of the province
Guadalajara University Hospital is in the capital, on Calle Donante de Sangre, and it is the reference hospital for an enormous province: from Azuqueca it is 15 km, from Sigüenza 74 km and from Molina de Aragón 140 km, and from the villages of La Alcarria, the Serranía and the Señorío no bus reaches a nine o'clock appointment. Referred specialities go to the Príncipe de Asturias in Alcalá or to Madrid's large hospitals. A pre-booked transfer drops you at the outpatient entrance, collects you on the way out and avoids the car park, which fills early.

Where is the hospital and what should you know on arrival?
Guadalajara University Hospital is in the city itself, on Calle Donante de Sangre, north of the centre and near the exit to the A-2. In recent years it has grown with a new building that reorganised the entrances: outpatient clinics, A&E and inpatient wards do not share the same door, and the appointment letter usually states the building and floor. Keep it handy and, if you arrive by transfer, say which clinic you are attending when booking so the driver drops you at the right entrance.
The car park fills during clinic hours, between eight and eleven, and the surrounding streets are residential with few free spaces. That is the practical reason many village families book a transfer for an appointment: the car drops at the door, there is no parking, and the pickup is booked for the expected time or requested on the way out.
How do you get there from the corridor, La Alcarria, Sigüenza and Molina?
From the Henares corridor the trip is short along the A-2: 15 km from Azuqueca (16 min), 11 km from Alovera, 9 km from Cabanillas. By public transport, the Cercanías or the intercity bus drop you in the centre of Guadalajara and from there you need a city bus or an uphill walk; for a nine o'clock appointment that means leaving home at half past seven.
From El Casar and the Campiña, 30 km along local roads and the A-2. From Sigüenza, 74 km and around 59 min; the medium-distance train reaches Guadalajara, but infrequently and far from the hospital. From Molina de Aragón, at the far end of the province, 140 km along the N-211 and the A-2: for its residents an appointment in Guadalajara takes the whole day, and a transfer with the return booked is what turns that day into a morning.
When is the appointment in Alcalá or Madrid?
Some of the province's specialities and tests are referred elsewhere: to the Príncipe de Asturias University Hospital in Alcalá de Henares, 28 km from the capital and even closer to the corridor, and to Madrid's large hospitals (La Paz, Ramón y Cajal, Gregorio Marañón, 12 de Octubre, Fundación Jiménez Díaz). The Madrid hospitals page lists prices from each town in the province, and the Alcalá de Henares page those for the Príncipe de Asturias and the city.
For Madrid, the route is the A-2 to the M-30 or M-40 and, from there, whichever hospital you need; early in the morning the urban stretch varies most, and the big hospitals have paid car parks that are almost always full. By Cercanías, the C-2 drops you at Chamartín and Nuevos Ministerios, from where you continue by metro; it is an option for anyone travelling alone, unhurried and without reduced mobility. For everyone else, a door-to-door transfer with the return requested when you finish.
Is a transfer to the hospital medical transport?
No. A car with a driver takes anyone who can travel seated in an ordinary vehicle, with their companion and luggage, to an appointment, a test, a check-up or to visit a relative in hospital. It does not replace an ambulance or the medical transport that the regional health service (SESCAM) prescribes when the patient's condition requires it; if the doctor has indicated it, that is the way.
What it does do: adapt to the companion, carry a folding wheelchair or walker in the boot, wait at the door at the agreed time, drive back to a Serranía village where there is no bus at that hour and, for anyone going every week to dialysis or rehabilitation, repeat at the same time and price as a fixed service. For those who need an adapted vehicle with a ramp, the accessible transfer page explains what is available and how to request it.
What if the appointment repeats every week?
Dialysis, rehabilitation, chemotherapy, monthly check-ups: some appointments are not a trip but a routine, and for a family in Sigüenza, Molina or a village in La Alcarria the routine is also the car's. The fixed service is designed for exactly that: the calendar is agreed — Mondays and Thursdays at eight, say — the price is fixed once and repeats, and each week it is confirmed or changed with notice at no penalty. The driver is usually the same, which is what an older person appreciates most.
When the payer is a company, an insurer or a care home, the business account invoices it monthly with each transfer itemised; and if the person lives on a Campiña estate or in a Serranía hamlet, give the exact address and a contact phone number the first time. After that, the driver already knows the door.
