Molina de Aragón and the Alto Tajo without a car: the Castilla-La Mancha district furthest from Barajas, and how to reach the airport, the hospital and the train
From Molina de Aragón everything is far and everything goes through the A-2: the referral hospital is Guadalajara's University Hospital, 140 km and about 107 min away; Barajas airport is 189 km, the longest trip in the province; and the train is caught in Guadalajara, at the Guadalajara-Yebes high-speed station or, for Zaragoza, at Sigüenza. The intercity bus to Guadalajara and Madrid exists, with few departures a day and none before dawn. For a flight, an early appointment or a high-speed connection, a fixed-price car with a driver collects you at home at whatever time is needed.

What is the Señorío de Molina, and why is it so far from everything?
The Señorío de Molina occupies the eastern end of the province of Guadalajara, bordering Teruel and Zaragoza, and is one of the least densely populated districts in all of Europe. Molina de Aragón, with its great fortress and medieval old town, is the service centre for dozens of small villages of the Alto Tajo, a natural park of gorges and pine forests that draws hikers and kayakers from spring to autumn. The provincial capital is over two hours away and Madrid even further; it is, in fact, the Castilla-La Mancha district furthest from Barajas.
The only fast way out is the N-211 to Alcolea del Pinar, where you join the A-2, and from there the motorway runs down towards Sigüenza, Guadalajara, Alcalá and Madrid. In winter the high stretch, above a thousand metres, has ice early in the morning and snow on some days, and on those days any flight or appointment plan calls for leaving with a margin. There is no alternative road that shortens the journey.
What public transport is there, and what is it good for?
Molina de Aragón has an intercity bus to Guadalajara and Madrid along the A-2, and district services that collect in the Señorío's villages on specific days and times, designed for a trip to the doctor or the market and back the same day. Departures are few, the first does not reach Madrid before mid-morning and there is nothing at night. There is no train: the conventional Madrid to Zaragoza line passes through Sigüenza, an hour away, and the high-speed line through Guadalajara-Yebes, nearly two. For residents' daily life the private car is the rule and the bus the exception.
That leaves three situations with no public answer: the morning flight out of Barajas, the early specialist appointment in Guadalajara and the connection with a high-speed train or a train to Zaragoza that does not match the bus. Those are exactly the trips booked with a driver from the district, almost always in advance and at a fixed time.
What does it cost to get to Barajas, the hospital or the high-speed train?
The figures are the route engine's and you see them before booking. From Molina de Aragón to Barajas airport, 189 km and about 140 min, from 239,06 €: it is the longest of the published trips in the province. To Guadalajara's University Hospital, 140 km from 178,47 €. To Guadalajara-Yebes station for the high-speed train, 146 km and about 113 min.
They are expensive trips compared with those of the Henares corridor because they are long, not because they are charged differently: the price comes from kilometres and time, as for any other origin. That is why in the Señorío people book differently: a same-day round trip when the appointment allows it, sharing the car among neighbours from the same village going to the same hospital, or fitting the flight to the pre-dawn departure that avoids the traffic into Madrid.
How do you organise an appointment in Guadalajara from the district?
Guadalajara's University Hospital is the referral centre for the whole Señorío, and appointments are given at the time that falls due, not when the bus arrives. SESCAM's patient transport covers, with a prescription, those who cannot travel on their own; everyone else organises it themselves. With a driver, the usual thing is to book the outward trip for the appointment time and the return with a wait, so that the same car drops you at outpatients, waits or comes back when told, and brings you back to Molina or the village without changing vehicle or waiting at the bus station.
If the referral is to a Madrid hospital the journey is longer but organised the same way; the driver knows the approaches to the big hospitals and the return is made whenever the appointment ends, by day or by night. A companion travels included in the price.
And to visit the Alto Tajo without a car?
The Alto Tajo Natural Park — the river gorges, the pine forests, the Barranco de la Hoz, the viewpoints at Zaorejas and Peralejos de las Truchas — has no internal public transport, and the villages are tens of kilometres apart along mountain roads. Anyone arriving by train at Sigüenza or Guadalajara-Yebes who wants to spend two or three days in the park needs a car to take them to Molina and, from there, to the trailheads, with a pickup time when they finish. It is a mountain transfer, with a time margin, and it is booked in advance because the district has few vehicles and the service comes from far away.

Bus and train timetables are published by their operators and change by season; in winter the N-211 may have ice or snow. Kilometres, minutes and prices are those of the route engine when the page is opened.
