The edges of the Henares corridor: Villanueva de la Torre, Yunquera and Chiloeches to Barajas, Alcalá and Madrid
Villanueva de la Torre, Yunquera de Henares and Chiloeches are in the Guadalajara and Henares corridor area, but none has a Cercanías station: the train is caught at Azuqueca, Guadalajara or Meco, which people reach by car or bus. Barajas is reached via the A-2 without entering Madrid: from Villanueva it is 33 km, from 58,12 €. To Alcalá de Henares, the other big destination, Yunquera is 37 km away. A transfer with a driver, with the price fixed before booking, covers the leg the train does not and the hours when it is not running.

Where are the three towns, and why do they depend on getting to a station?
The three towns surround Guadalajara and the corridor along its edges. Villanueva de la Torre lies south of Azuqueca, right by the boundary with the Madrid region, and has grown with new neighbourhoods of people who work in Alcalá, Madrid or the industrial estates along the A-2. Yunquera de Henares is north of the capital, up the Henares valley, a few kilometres from Guadalajara and Marchamalo. Chiloeches is south of Guadalajara, on the other side of the river Henares, with its own industrial estate and housing developments spread across the municipality. They are three different towns that share the same difficulty when it comes to travelling.
What they have in common is that none has a Cercanías station. Line C-2 ends at Guadalajara and stops at Azuqueca de Henares and at Meco, already in Madrid, so any train journey starts with a leg by car, by bus or on a long walk to one of those stations. For getting to work at a normal hour that leg is solved with your own car and the station car park; for an early flight, for anyone who does not drive or for coming back at night, when there is no bus and nobody to collect you, that leg is exactly the weak link, which is why many residents prefer to make the whole trip by road.
How does the Cercanías fit in, and what is a car to the station for?
The C-2 Cercanías is hard to beat for daily trips to Alcalá, Torrejón or central Madrid: it stops at Alcalá, Chamartín and Atocha, and at rush hour it runs very frequently. For these three towns, the way to use it without a car of your own is a short transfer to the station booked for the train time. From Chiloeches to Guadalajara station it is 17 km; from Yunquera de Henares to that same station, the transfer starts from 20,81 €, and from Villanueva de la Torre the natural choice is Azuqueca or Meco station, both on the same line and a few minutes away by car.
That short link has two clear uses. One is daily: anyone without a car, or who shares one at home, can set up the transfer to the station as a regular booking at the same time every working day, at the same price. The other is occasional: the first train of the morning for an exam, an interview or an AVE at Atocha or Chamartín, when there is no bus that reaches the station in time. On the way back, the station pickup is booked for an approximate time and confirmed by message on boarding the train, without depending on someone at home being free at that hour to collect a traveller who arrives loaded down or tired.
How do you get to Barajas from each town?
The airport is on the same A-2, beyond Alcalá and Torrejón, and there is no need to enter Madrid: you leave by the M-14 for terminals T1, T2 and T3, or continue to the M-12 for T4. From Villanueva de la Torre you join the A-2 at Azuqueca or Meco; from Yunquera and Chiloeches you first drop down to Guadalajara or Azuqueca, which adds a few kilometres but does not usually add traffic. The stretch that governs the time is Alcalá to Torrejón early in the morning, and the R-2 toll road is the alternative when the A-2 is busy.
From Chiloeches, the transfer to the airport starts from 79,13 €, and from Yunquera de Henares it is 58 km to the terminal. For an early European flight, the pickup in these towns usually falls between half past four and five in the morning, and for a mid-morning flight the rush-hour margin gets used up entirely. The return from Barajas is booked with the flight number: the driver tracks the actual arrival, picks up with a sign in arrivals if requested, and the calculator tells you before booking whether there is a slot for that time.
Why is Alcalá de Henares the other big destination?
Alcalá de Henares, already in the Madrid region, is almost a county town for these places: it has the university, with faculties in the old town and on the campus on the outskirts by the A-2, a good share of the corridor's jobs, the big shops and the Príncipe de Asturias University Hospital, part of the Madrid network. The university and historic precinct are a World Heritage Site, and the city receives weekend visitors. From Villanueva de la Torre to Alcalá it is 15 km, a short drive that by public transport nearly always involves a change.
Residents of the province have their reference hospital in Guadalajara, run by SESCAM, so people go to Alcalá mainly for study, work and visits. The most common cases are students with split class timetables that do not fit the bus; shifts at Alcalá industrial estates that start or finish in the small hours; and an outing to the old town with an older person or with children. From Yunquera de Henares to Alcalá, the transfer starts from 59,70 €, via the A-2 from Guadalajara. For someone who studies there every day, the service can be set up as a regular booking with the same time and price, and changed under the conditions on the help page.
And central Madrid, Chamartín and the Yebes AVE?
For central Madrid, the Cercanías from Azuqueca or Guadalajara is the sensible choice on a working day, and the car with a driver is for the gaps: a fixed-time appointment with an older person, a student moving house, a concert with a late return or a group sharing the price, which is per vehicle, not per person. From Villanueva de la Torre to Chamartín takes about 37 min without traffic, via the A-2 and the M-40 or M-30 depending on the time. At night, with the A-2 empty, the times are those of the route engine, and the return is booked with the outbound trip so as not to look for transport at the exit.
For the AVE there are two stations not to be confused: Guadalajara station, in the city, with Cercanías and Media Distancia trains, and Guadalajara-Yebes, the high-speed station, in the municipality of Yebes, several kilometres south of the capital and with little public transport. For Chiloeches, which is also south of Guadalajara, Yebes is 20 km away, and for trains towards Zaragoza and Barcelona it is a more comfortable option than going up to Madrid. When booking, say which of the two stations you are going to and the train time, so the driver can work out the pickup with a margin.
What about large suitcases, work equipment or a student moving house?
The Cercanías is comfortable with a rucksack and very uncomfortable with two large suitcases, a box of books or an instrument, and at rush hour between Azuqueca and Alcalá there is barely room in the carriage. In these cases the direct transfer has an advantage that has nothing to do with price: the luggage is loaded once at the front door and unloaded at the destination. When booking it helps to say how many suitcases there are and whether there is anything bulky, such as a folded bicycle, a wheelchair or work equipment, so the vehicle that comes has enough boot space and there are no surprises when loading in Villanueva, Yunquera or Chiloeches.
The most common case in September and June is the student settling into Alcalá or heading home at the end of the academic year, with everything that fits in a car. Another is the professional going to a trade fair at IFEMA or a client visit with samples or heavy equipment, who does not want to park in Madrid. In both, the price is per vehicle and fixed before booking, with no supplement for the luggage declared. For companies that repeat these trips, the business account groups them into a monthly invoice and allows several members of staff to book.
Frequently asked questions
Is there a Cercanías station in Villanueva de la Torre?
No. The nearest C-2 stations are Azuqueca de Henares and Meco, the latter already in the Madrid region; people reach them by car, by bus or with a short transfer.
How long does it take from Chiloeches to the airport?
About 57 min without traffic via the A-2; early in the morning, the Alcalá to Torrejón stretch can lengthen it. The price, fixed before booking, does not change because of a jam.
Can I set up a regular transfer from Yunquera to Guadalajara station?
Yes, with the same time and price on the days you choose. It is changed or cancelled under the conditions explained on the help page.
Will I be picked up at Azuqueca station when coming back from Madrid at night?
Yes, with an approximate time confirmed by message when you board the train. The driver picks up at the station exit that was agreed.
Can I be taken to the Guadalajara-Yebes AVE from Villanueva de la Torre?
Yes. When booking, say it is the Yebes high-speed station and not the city's Cercanías station, and give the train time, so that the pickup has a margin.

Cercanías and intercity bus timetables are published by Renfe and the operators and change; check them before travelling. Kilometres, minutes and prices are those of the route engine when the page is opened, and the Barajas pickup depends on the day's capacity.
